Look Out Point @ Hulu Langat

January 9th, 2010

It was a little after eight o’clock in the evening when my beloved and I decided to head out for dinner. Since it was a long weekend, my beloved suggested somewhere further than the usual dining spots we frequent. We have decided to pay a visit to the Look Out Point on Jalan Hulu Langat.

Almost an hour and a half later, with the help of Google Maps and my phone’s GPS, we finally reached our destination.

Little Genting

We parked our car took the flight of stairs to the top of the Look Out Point where there are a few restaurants with breath-taking view for a romantic dinner with your loved ones. Or with your family.

Little Genting

Since I was not prepared for such nice view, the only recording device for still images I had was my phone, and the pictures in this entry are nothing near the exact view your eyes get to savor on site. Even though the temperature is not as low as in Genting, it is quite cooling and you do not need extra sweater.

Little Genting

We chose a table next to the window in the enclosed dining area, where it will be warmer than the open dining area where occasional wind will make you shiver in cold. Unless you want a legitimate reason to hug your love ones in public.

We kept ourselves warm with a hot cuppa tea. We also warmed our stomach with some delicious food prepared by the Bread and Olive while feasting out eyes with the panoramic night view of the KL city.

We shifted to a table with a better view after the previous diners left. This has a better view as compared to the table we had earlier. Since it was in a middle of the long weekend night, the waiters were too busy to serve us even though we have been seated there for more than 15 minutes. Eventually we placed our orders and waited for our food.

My beloved ordered a Fish & Chip and the tartar sauce goes on well with the moderately fried fish. The chips were not too oily as well. Price was acceptable too.

Mine was a lamb chop with mint sauce, and the mashed potatoes were deliciously delicious! We spent half an hour ordering and waiting for the food and spent half of the time gobbling up the food. It may be a testament to how good the food is, or how hungry we are considering the time when dinner was served is around 1030pm!

We were admiring the view after the food and before we knew it was midnight. We had to get home and left this place with a heavy heart. Rest assured that we will be coming back again soon, with a better camera, and better prepared.

p.s. A colleague of mine who stays around the area told me that the Ampang-Hulu Langat Look Out Point is different from the Little Genting (which was were we wanted to go at the first place). Since the Look Out Point was made popular, the visitors to Little Genting has dwindled.

The Library Part Two

December 5th, 2009

My beloved and I were not able to have a look at the interior of the Library the other night, therefore we decided to go to the Library again during the day.

Inside the Library

We have settled down on the table with a nice view where we can enjoy a comfortable sunshine without getting sun-burnt. I had the opportunity to take a few pictures of the interior and even though it is a bar, I think the place is tastefully decorated to match its theme.

The Library Stage

This is the stage of the Library. When the actual library is supposed to be quiet so that people can study, this is the Library when you are encouraged to show your talent on stage (every week, they have a competition going on), complete with drums and musical instruments, so that you can sing your soul out. Beers are served for those who do not appreciate your talents.

The Library Beer Station

These two ‘beer stations’ are located next to the stage, where beer is served right from the tap. I am not a beer-person, so I cannot really tell you how excited I would get if I get a seat at the station and enjoy free-flow beer, literally. Now I wonder who is going to pay for the beer when everyone is drunk…

The Library

When we were there the other night, all the tables and chairs were removed and all I could see was people standing there, getting drunk. Some people were playing some songs at the stage and I can barely hear what my beloved was trying to say to me.

Anyway, enough of the Library, it was time to get something to eat. When the ‘librarian’ served us, he tried his best to explain to us the set lunch with his not-so-perfect English. The Set Lunch consists of a salad, a soup and the main course choice of either Sirloin Steak, Creamy Chicken or Fish and Chip. And he told us it was RM20 for the set. My beloved and I thought we have heard wrongly, but we went ahead and ordered two set lunch.

The Salad

When the salad was served, my beloved and I looked at each other and thought, ‘Are you sure the set dinner is RM20?’ As we were both quite hungry, we began eating before I remembered to take a picture of it. The picture above was taken after I almost finished half of it. The salad tastes nice and I do not mind having another serving.

Carrot Soup with Bread Stix

Next up was the soup. It is the carrot soup, served with a bread stick that spans the length of the soup plate. Even though I do not really like carrots, the creamy carrot soup tastes nice and I did not hesitate to finish it. The bread stick is crispy and nice too.

Sirloin Steak served with Fries

Our medium-rare steak was served next. It has been a long while that I had a steak that was cooked to order and the cook did not disappoint me. Served with chips and baby tomatoes, the steak is so delicious that I can feel my saliva building up in my mouth while I type this.

Set Lunch with Beer

Another picture of the juicy steak. You would have thought I am lying when I tell you that my stomach is growling at the sight of this picture. Seriously, I am craving for this steak now.

Stella Artois

A visit to the Library will not be complete without a drink, so we ordered a pint of Stella Artois (and got a pint for free as it was the deal between 12pm-6pm). As compared to Hoegaarden, Stella Artois tastes more like a beer. The beer tastes very rich and a lot more bitter than Hoegaarden. I told my beloved that Stella Artois is for uncles. Ha ha.

When it is time to leave, we asked for the bill, anticipating an amount that would empty all the cash in my wallet. Surprisingly, the Set Lunch was actually RM19.90, and this price is already inclusive of the 15% GST (no, I am not talking about Goods and Service Tax, I mean 5% Government Tax and 10% Service Charge).

I have forgot to mention that the price listed on the menu of the Library is what you are going to pay for, without any hidden or add on charges, unlike many other food and beverages outlets that charge you extra on top of the menu price. Therefore I really think this is what all other eateries should follow suit as well.

Set Lunch @ the Library

When we left the Library, we realised that we have overlooked the Set Lunch Menu positioned on the right side of the entrance. We came in from the left. However we are a bit curious why is the Breakfast Set RM5 dearer than the Set Lunch? No beers included anyway.

Breakfast Set @ the Library

No, it was not me that smeared the writings on the board, it was someone else, serious. The Library is open from 11am till late (early in the morning actually). Both Breakfast Set and Set Lunch are available from 12pm – 3pm. So I wonder why not name them the Brunch Set.

I have forgotten to mention that they serve delicious-looking cakes as well, but I have yet to try out. Maybe next time when I am there for tea (yea rite).

The Library @ e-Curve Damansara

December 3rd, 2009

It was a long weekend and my beloved has just finished her exams, therefore we were planning on where to go to relax ourselves after a hectic week. So when she suggested on where to go, I did a double take.

“Where did you say you want to go?”

“The Library,” she replied.

“Are you sure? I thought the library was the last place you want to go after a whole month of studying?”

“Yup,” while flashing her naughty sweet smile.

So here we are, at the Library.

The Library

When we arrived at the Library at around 9pm, the entrance was crowded and there was a sign indicating that there was a private function and the open area were still open for business. While we were contemplating whether to enter the Library or go to another place, I took a few snaps of the nicely decorated bar and bistro.

The Library

I have always thought that libraries should be filled with antique study tables and they have one right in front of the entrance. Next to the other side of the entrance are stacks of ‘books’ nicely arranged on the shelves.

The Library

Finally we have decided to enter the Library and to find a nice place to settle down. However, the outer area was packed with people and we were forced to settle down somewhere next to a huge ventilation area. The place we sat was not that bad after all, since we got a nice view and the ventilation actually is quite cooling considering that was a hot night.

Outside of the Library

After a long wait, finally we have a ‘librarian’ to serve us. We noticed that all ‘librarians’ wear glasses and had their long hairs tied up into a pony tail. We ordered a pint of Hoegaarden (and we got half a pint free @ RM36).

Hoegaarden

The beer is smooth and with 50cl (centi-litres) it just will not get you drunk, even if you are not a good drinker. If you are really bad with alcohols, try the half-pint instead (25cl). Besides beer, my beloved wanted to try out their cocktails and ordered something pinkish, which I cannot recall the name. (My beloved later told me that it is called “woo woo”, what a name for a drink.)

Cocktail

This pinkish cocktail is a mixture of fruit juice and some fruit-based alcohol. It taste kind of sweet and we might mistaken it as some kind of fruit punch instead of a cocktail. The Library’s list of cocktails are extensive and they even have to categorize the drinks from A to Z, and a section for numbers too. After drinking for a while (we were so ‘thirsty’ that we started drinking before taking the pictures), we realised that we have not eaten proper dinner. Since the Library was having a private function, only finger food was served. Therefore we ordered something finger-ly.

Petit Sausage

Yup, this is our finger food, the Petit Sausage. The food is nice but the mustard tastes funny. If not for the yellowish color, I would have thought that it was wasabi. We left the Library after roughly 90 minutes as we have finished our drink and food, and our area was getting too noisy that my beloved and I could barely hear each other.
