The Library Part Two

December 5th, 2009 by aacee Leave a reply »

My beloved and I were not able to have a look at the interior of the Library the other night, therefore we decided to go to the Library again during the day.

Inside the Library

We have settled down on the table with a nice view where we can enjoy a comfortable sunshine without getting sun-burnt. I had the opportunity to take a few pictures of the interior and even though it is a bar, I think the place is tastefully decorated to match its theme.

The Library Stage

This is the stage of the Library. When the actual library is supposed to be quiet so that people can study, this is the Library when you are encouraged to show your talent on stage (every week, they have a competition going on), complete with drums and musical instruments, so that you can sing your soul out. Beers are served for those who do not appreciate your talents.

The Library Beer Station

These two ‘beer stations’ are located next to the stage, where beer is served right from the tap. I am not a beer-person, so I cannot really tell you how excited I would get if I get a seat at the station and enjoy free-flow beer, literally. Now I wonder who is going to pay for the beer when everyone is drunk…

The Library

When we were there the other night, all the tables and chairs were removed and all I could see was people standing there, getting drunk. Some people were playing some songs at the stage and I can barely hear what my beloved was trying to say to me.

Anyway, enough of the Library, it was time to get something to eat. When the ‘librarian’ served us, he tried his best to explain to us the set lunch with his not-so-perfect English. The Set Lunch consists of a salad, a soup and the main course choice of either Sirloin Steak, Creamy Chicken or Fish and Chip. And he told us it was RM20 for the set. My beloved and I thought we have heard wrongly, but we went ahead and ordered two set lunch.

The Salad

When the salad was served, my beloved and I looked at each other and thought, ‘Are you sure the set dinner is RM20?’ As we were both quite hungry, we began eating before I remembered to take a picture of it. The picture above was taken after I almost finished half of it. The salad tastes nice and I do not mind having another serving.

Carrot Soup with Bread Stix

Next up was the soup. It is the carrot soup, served with a bread stick that spans the length of the soup plate. Even though I do not really like carrots, the creamy carrot soup tastes nice and I did not hesitate to finish it. The bread stick is crispy and nice too.

Sirloin Steak served with Fries

Our medium-rare steak was served next. It has been a long while that I had a steak that was cooked to order and the cook did not disappoint me. Served with chips and baby tomatoes, the steak is so delicious that I can feel my saliva building up in my mouth while I type this.

Set Lunch with Beer

Another picture of the juicy steak. You would have thought I am lying when I tell you that my stomach is growling at the sight of this picture. Seriously, I am craving for this steak now.

Stella Artois

A visit to the Library will not be complete without a drink, so we ordered a pint of Stella Artois (and got a pint for free as it was the deal between 12pm-6pm). As compared to Hoegaarden, Stella Artois tastes more like a beer. The beer tastes very rich and a lot more bitter than Hoegaarden. I told my beloved that Stella Artois is for uncles. Ha ha.

When it is time to leave, we asked for the bill, anticipating an amount that would empty all the cash in my wallet. Surprisingly, the Set Lunch was actually RM19.90, and this price is already inclusive of the 15% GST (no, I am not talking about Goods and Service Tax, I mean 5% Government Tax and 10% Service Charge).

I have forgot to mention that the price listed on the menu of the Library is what you are going to pay for, without any hidden or add on charges, unlike many other food and beverages outlets that charge you extra on top of the menu price. Therefore I really think this is what all other eateries should follow suit as well.

Set Lunch @ the Library

When we left the Library, we realised that we have overlooked the Set Lunch Menu positioned on the right side of the entrance. We came in from the left. However we are a bit curious why is the Breakfast Set RM5 dearer than the Set Lunch? No beers included anyway.

Breakfast Set @ the Library

No, it was not me that smeared the writings on the board, it was someone else, serious. The Library is open from 11am till late (early in the morning actually). Both Breakfast Set and Set Lunch are available from 12pm – 3pm. So I wonder why not name them the Brunch Set.

I have forgotten to mention that they serve delicious-looking cakes as well, but I have yet to try out. Maybe next time when I am there for tea (yea rite).

to answer your beer tap question, yes, I’ve had the honor of drinking there once, and my group of friends finished up the barrel of beer (RM800+) with gusto, and ended the night with a liberal doses of flaming lamborghini and whiskey shots, as to who is going to pay for the beer when everyone is drunk, collect the money from everyone first lah…
